Did You Know Eating 3 Meals a Day Could PREVENT You From Losing Weight?

Did you know that eating 3 meals a day could actually cause you or prevent you from losing weight?

How is that possible?

When I was a kid, and I think most of us when we grew up, we were raised eating three meals a day…

I know that’s what I was raised to do…

I remember being a kid and in the morning I’d wake up…

I lived in California…

I would wake up…

We lived in a house on the hills of northern California…

We had quite a bit of land too…

I would wake up and have a bowl of cereal…

That’s what I had for breakfast…

Then at lunch time I would eat lunch, probably buy lunch when I was in school…

And then when I got home we would have dinner together as a family, it was a big thing…

That was it!

I would also have some dessert, to make sure I packed on the extra food before sleeping…

That was it…

If you look at society up to that point, it was like that everywhere you’d go…

Go to the restaurant and look at the menu…

You’ll see breakfast, lunch, dinner…

Everywhere you go, the whole society, the whole world has always been based around this idea of eating three meals a day…

An 8-Week Weight Loss Course Made Me Think About That Phenomenon

Let’s think about three meals a day for a second…

I never thought it would’ve been a problem…

I never would’ve known that it would’ve been a problem…

It wasn’t until I was attending an 8-week weight loss course…

During this course I was in the class and the teacher was up there speaking…

He stood in front with his PowerPoint and it must’ve been around the beginning of the course…

When he talked about meal frequency…

How eating 3 meals a day is actually causing us to not lose weight and how it’s preventing us from losing weight…

Wait a minute? How can this be?

He broke it down for us, he exposed me to things I never was aware before in regards to this…

Think of your body level of energy when you hit the breakfast point…

Your energy spikes up and then slowly goes down…

Takes about 2 hours to process food and then it goes down…

Down where the energy level is basically almost on a starvation mode…

That’s the level on which your body has no energy…

Ever felt like that?

Have you ever felt hungry between your meals, but you couldn’t eat because it’s not lunchtime yet?

Holy crap, lunch time is in 2 hours…

I’m starving, I don’t have any evergy…

I feel like I’m dragging…

Let me get another cup of coffee…

Something’s got to get me through until lunch…

One thing we didn’t realize is that when we are eating, we are fueling our body…

Our body is using that as energy…

When you don’t have it for 4 to 6 hours between meals, your body is running on fumes…

Think of the gas in a car that is empty and its running on fumes, waiting until you fill it up…

That’s exactly what is happening in between those meals…

I wasn’t aware of this at the time but it was something I was being exposed to…

What does that mean?

We hit the spike at breakfast and then we come back down…

We hit the spike again at lunch and then it should come back down again…

What ends up happening when you’re in starving mode is…

Your body wants food badly and you’re so hungry that at lunch time the energy spikes up dramatically…

It breaks through the ceiling and then comes back down…

What does that mean when energy level breaks through the ceiling and then come back down?

It means that I am overeating…

Another thing I ended up learning was that it takes time for our bodies and minds to actually process the fact that we’ve eaten…

It takes an average for 22 minutes for your mind and your stomach to communicate that you’ve eaten…

If that’s the case and you’re starving and you’re waiting for the next meal…

Then you hit this point when you’re eating and you just stuff the food in your mouth and it feels good because you’ve been so hungry…

Energy levels at that point spike up and then you feel stuffed…

After such a meal you probably feel like you have to take a nap and if you’re at work you probably wont be very productive right after a heavy meal…

That’s what it feels like right after I’ve finished a huge break in eating…

Energy levels break through the ceiling and as it comes back down…

My body is starting to process that huge meal…

Then after that, my energy level is back at a starvation mode…

When the energy level comes back down, I’m hungry again, but I can’t eat, because it’s not dinner time yet…

Then dinner time comes along and my energy levels spike up through the ceiling again…

Same cycle is repeating itself…

The problem was that a lot of us eat dinner late…

Let’s think about this for a second…

When I’m eating dinner late…

At least for me when growing up and the way I was raised… dinner was like THE meal of the day…

I didn’t care if you missed any other meal… but I had to be there for dinner…

Dinner was the good stuff…

Dinner was when we were going to cook…

Weirdest thing… we eat smallest breakfast… then we eat little bigger lunch… then we eat a huge dinner…

If you understand anything about eating or nutrition… you understand that this is completely jacked up…

We are eating the fuel for our body… just like fueling the car…

But we are giving ourselves with no fuel in the morning right when we need it the most… it’s called break fast…

We Are Breaking the Fast in the Morning but We Don’t Give Our Bodies Enough Fuel

If you break it into words it’s ‘break’ and ‘fast’…

You’re breaking the fast…

We are breaking the 8 hour fast from sleeping…

We are breaking this long fast and with only a little tiny bit of food…

You are supposed to go throughout the day full of energy with this little bowl of cereal and maybe a piece of fruit…THAT is your energy source…

That is supposed to hold you up until lunch?

Lunch we eat a little bit bigger… a piece of pizza or whatever is available…

Then at dinner time…

Right before I’m about to go to bed…

When I need no energy because I’m going to be using 0 energy…

Let me pack in the food…

That was a good dinner… time to sleep…

I got a full energy tank, I’m completely full and I even got a backup tank…

Let’s go do absolutely nothing now and just sleep…

I’m trying to drive a point with this…

Doesn’t that seem wacked out when you think about it?

How wacked out is that?

Let me eat nothing when I need it the most (or very little)…

But when I don’t need the energy any more, let me eat a ton…

Isn’t it weird… how jacked up is our eating structure?

Our Bodies Metabolism Is Programmed Differently

You know what is another crazy thing?

Our bodies are designed by God to be a certain way…

They are programmed a certain way…

I don’t care what doctor you go see… they do not know how to change this programming…

But there are little hacks…

You need to understand the way your bodies work…

We have hormones and they regulate everything in our body…

It’s very important to understand hormones…

I hear so many times, when I’m talking to people about losing weight…

How they say that they are doing everything right…

They exercise and they eat like a bird and they still don’t lose weight…

That it doesn’t work for them…

I hear it all the time…

But if you understand that there is more than just putting food in and burning energy…

There’s a whole human being structure in front of you…

Understanding a little bit, not everything, but to understand a little bit about how it works…

Just understand the hormones involved and you will see things differently…

Hormones regulate our metabolism…

They regulate the way our bodies use energy and things like that…

The funny thing is when our energy levels are going through these ups… when energy spikes…

And downs… Our bodies are designed to go on starvation mode…

I don’t care about what anyone else says… I’ve seen mixed theories on this and I don’t care…

Our bodies go in starvation mode…

As soon as you bump through the ceiling and you slam back down to the floor and you’re waiting again to eat… that is called starvation mode…

Your body is going to immediately slow down it’s metabolism so it can stop using calories until the next meal…

Because it thinks that the next meal is a long way away…

It doesn’t know…

As soon as your body is in starvation mode then your body plans for the worst case scenario…

You can’t tell your brain that you’re going to eat in couple of hours and that there is no need to go in starvation mode…

Don’t slow down the metabolism! Now my brain knows…

It doesn’t work like that!

You can’t just talk to your brain and tell it to stop doing what it was programmed to do…

It just does it…

What I am trying to get across is that when you go into the starvation mode, your metabolism is slowing down…

You’re working against yourself…

These are the things that I’ve learned…

So you may think “Okay I got it, eating 3 meals a day isn’t the greatest idea. So, what are we supposed to do about it? That’s the way the world is… We eat 3 meals a day”…

It’s not!

It Only Takes One Small Change to The Way You Eat to Start Losing Weight

My mind got open to this in that class and it showed me that all I had to do is one small tweak…

A small little tweak to the way I was eating and when I ate and how I ate…

 This one little tiny tweak changes everything…

All of a sudden, your metabolism goes into super-drive mode…

It’s no longer going to starvation mode, instead it’s like super-hot fire…

Think of your metabolism as a fire pit and when you don’t throw food in the fire, it turns icy cold and it’s just spattering little sparks…

When you know how to do it and eat correctly, then that fire is intense…

It is just burning throughout the day…

You turn into a fat-burning machine…

There’s A Way to Eat Plenty, Not Starve Your Body and Still Burn Fat

Another crazy thing that our bodies do…

When your body goes into starvation mode…

It starts using muscle as an energy source…

Muscle! The thing you’re trying to build and want to have is muscle…

It’s using that as energy source and stores fat long-term…

For some reason our bodies think that our muscle is more disposable than fat and it stores fat to keep for long-term energy source…

I see this all the time…

People telling me that they only eat (for example) 800 calories a day…

Or they eat once a day…

I’m shocked to hear such things!

You eat once a day?

You don’t have to tell me anymore… I already know what your problem is…

You need to change the way you eat…

Learning this one thing changed everything…

I no longer had hunger pains…

I no longer had appetite problems…

I no longer went to bed feeling stuffed…

I don’t know about you, but I like to drink a glass of wine in the evening…

Have you ever tried to drink a glass of wine when you’re stuffed?

That is the worst feeling!

I don’t drink a glass of wine because I’m hungry…

I don’t drink a glass of wine because I’m thirsty…

I drink a glass of wine because it makes me feel good…

It’s relaxing and I just enjoy it…

But I don’t enjoy packing wine down my overly packed stomach…

I don’t enjoy that!

So why stuff yourself in the evening?

Doesn’t even make sense… you’re about to go to bed…

Why you need all that energy before you sleep?

I no longer went to bed overstuffed…

Cravings actually disappeared…

Just from this one little trick…

I call it a ‘food hack’… it’s one little trick and all off a sudden cravings are basically gone… I’m no longer hungry…

Even on a diet… even on a thousand calorie deficit I’m not hungry…

Understand this and all off a sudden everything changes…

The weight is coming off…

You’re in super muscle-building and fat-burning mode…

I keep my body primed in that situation… it’s important…

You’re fighting yourself if you’re not…
