Stress is Associated to Obesity

Did You Know That Stress is Associated to Obesity 86% of the Time? Here’s What You Should Do

Can you believe that 86% of the time stress is a leading factor associated to obesity?

That’s a huge number…

I first learned that stress could be associated to weight gain was when I was attending a Ship Shape course in Guam when I was trying to learn more about how to lose weight…

Stress Sabotages Your Body Chemistry

So, I was in this class…

On one of the weeks, it might have been week 4 of our 8 week course…

We were in the class, we were a small group of 5 people…

Mr. Martinez was in front of the class talking…

He was teaching that stress causes people to gain fat…

Stress actually has a major impact on your hormone levels and everything else…

What that means is that even though we’re doing all the right things to lose weight, we’re sabotaging our body chemistry inside and it’s doing the opposite of what we wanted it to do…

Let’s say we are doing a calorie deficit, we are exercising but we are stressed out…

It’s like fighting against yourself…

It’s really hard and different hormones get affected in the process…

Believe it or not, three weeks of the course that I was in focused on some form of lowering your stress levels…

It was a huge factor to being able to lose weight…

86% of the cases…

That stuck with me…

You need to really think about it throughout your day because we all want to lose weight and we want to get the most out of our time…

If we’re doing these things, they’re very hard…

When we don’t see progress, that can be devastating because a lot of us would stop the program and will say that it doesn’t work…

It might be working but it’s just because your hormones are jacked up because you’re stressed out…

Think about how stressful todays jobs are…

I’m in the Navy…

Anyone in the military, doesn’t matter what branch, can speak about how much stress is associated to the job…

For example, you get to deploy for 6 months at a time, maybe longer…

You’re leaving your family with the newborn children behind, there’s so many things…

You may have a really demanding job, demanding boss that’s stressing you out at work and don’t even have time to breathe…

There are really a lot of things that could be stressing you out and if you take the time to deal with the stress and learn how to handle stress, it can have a huge impact on your weight loss…

I later learned about it again when I was going through one of Kris Gethin’s 8-week hardcore trainers…

One of the things he was talking about was when you go to the gym and you work out, you are tearing the muscles down, it’s very stressful on your body when you’re in the gym doing these exercises…

It’s very stressful on the nervous system…

That will have the same effect on your body as having a stressful environment at work or at home…

Maybe you and your spouse don’t get along well and it creates a lot of stress…

Maybe there’s life crisis going on, someone dies or things happen in life all the time, that can pump up your stress levels…

So even in muscle gain, when you have stress, your body wants to put on fat and tear down muscle…

Isn’t that crazy?

That’s horrible…

I’m going to lose muscle and gain fat…

It’s the exact opposite of what you’re trying to do…

So, it’s really important that if you’re trying to lose weight that you really think about your stress levels…

Because if you don’t, you’re going to hit a wall and you’re not going to know why you’re not losing weight…

You’re going to be wondering what the heck is going on, that you are doing everything right and why you’re not losing weight, because you’re stressed out…

Clinical Studies on Stress Related to Stomach Fat

There are even some clinical studies that proves this too…

That’s where the 86% comes from… It is one of the clinical studies…

One study, PMC 6294680, where 45 adults participated in the study…

They were all obese people…

They did an 8-week plan with them, they split people into two control groups…

The study ran for 8 weeks…

With one group they did different things to bring down their stress levels and the second group was just in normal life situations…

They found that the group who was working on the stress relief, their body fat percentage went down, their different hormone levels were lower than the other group and their life was better and ton of other things were better than the other group as well…

I looked into this topic further and I found 6 more clinical studies on the same thing that found the same results as the one I described…

One specific study was really cool, it focused on abdominal fat, so it’s stomach fat specifically…

They did the same control groups…

This study ran for 4 months with 47 women, also two different groups…

After the 4 months they actually lost a lot of their abdominal fat just from lowering the stress…

So, stress is linked to stomach fat…

A lot of us are wondering why out stomach is fat or fat underneath the muscles, called the visceral fat…

That’s the fat that is around your organs and it actually expands…

Those are the people who look like they are pregnant and their stomach is way out…

I had that once when I was bulking…

My stomach was ridiculously tight and fat, it looked horrible…

All these studies have been done on this topic…

A lot of these plans that they had people on for 8 weeks and every plan I’ve been on was 8 weeks…

Why Are Weight Loss Plans Typically 8 Weeks

You know why we do those plans 8 weeks?

We want a plan that is 8 weeks long, because that is how long it takes to change a habit…

We are not in this for quick results…

I’m not trying to help you out for one week so that you could fall back into your old habits the next week after that and lose any benefits you’ve gained from learning anything at all…

You need to go through 8 weeks…

Not a month, not 3 weeks, not 6 weeks but 8 weeks…

8 weeks it what it takes…

It has been proven that in 8 weeks you will develop a new habit…

What happens when you get a new habit?

When you develop a new habit, you enjoy doing that…

Think about anything that you do right now as a habit and if someone stops you from doing that, breaks that rhythm, you will get upset, because you’ve developed that habit…

Right now, I go to the gym in the morning and if something comes up, like I’ve got a duty or something that comes in the way of me being able to go to my work out in the morning, it screws up my entire routine…

My entire mental game…

I have to rethink what am I going to do that day and I hate it…

Because I have my habit established…

A habit is basically how you’ve programmed yourself to do certain things in a certain way…

You don’t think about it anymore…

You need an 8 week plan…

You go through the 8 week plan, you establish this new habit and you figure out the ways that you can bring down your stress levels…

If you do that, you’re going to see your fat starting to melt off…

Maybe you’re stuck at a plateau…

Maybe this will help you to start moving again to start losing body fat if you’re already trying…

If not, then it’s a great time to start losing some body fat just from the stress relief…

I’m developing an 8-week course…

I’m really excited about it…

There’s going to be a huge section on stress relief, because I know how important it is and methods that I personally use to lower my stress levels and they work amazingly…

You’ve got to see these things!

Some of the things in there will blow your mind…
