Lose Weight Eating Carbs Even if You’re Insulin Sensitive or Insulin Resistant

This morning someone asked me if they could still lose weigh even if they are eating carbs…

The question was, it was from a ketogenic person, you know how much I “love” ketogenic people, right…

Of course, you know how I reply…

Hell yeah, you can! You can eat as many carbs as you want…

I get a bunch of responses, because I work with bunch of ketogenic people…

One person said that “I can’t eat carbs, because I’m insulin sensitive and because I am insulin sensitive, if I eat carbs, I’m going to gain weight and be fat”…

I was like: WHAT?

Hold up…

What are you talking about?

I don’t understand…

You must have no clue at all about what insulin is or how carbs work…

Or how your body puts on body fat, you have no clue …

I am not trying to be mean or say that this person is stupid or anything like that…

I know that there is this big educational gap in the world…

People who get thrown into this ketogenic crap, probably have big misunderstandings how anything works…

That’s why they are doing ketogenic to begin with…

If you don’t know what ketogenic is, they think that they cannot eat a lot of processed carbs or carbs in general…

Mainly they like to eat fat and put their body into ketosis…

Understand About Insulin and Weight Loss

Let’s talk about this for a second…

This person really wanted to lose weight but still wanted to eat carbs…

Someone asked the person, why would you want to eat carbs?

It was like an Alcoholic Anonymous group, like why would you want to go back to such a thing…

I was thinking…”is this really happening?”…

That person’s response was “it’s not that, I just don’t like carbs because I’m Indian, it’s so hard to not eat carbs and still be an Indian because all the food has carbs in it”…

I mean, this person is justifying why they want to eat food that God put on this planet for us to enjoy…

Like it’s some poison or they are talking about it like going back to doing drugs or something…

Let’s see what we can do about this…

I want to lose weight and I want to be able to do it by eating carbs…

Have you seen the movie Titanic?

I love that movie…

I actually haven’t seen that movie in a long time, but I thought about it today when I got this question and it makes me want to watch it though…

It’s the one with Leonardo DiCaprio, he’s on the peer and playing this poker game when he wins tickets to ride on Titanic and in a few minutes it’s about to board…

He gets the tickets and he is running to the ship…

He barely makes it on before they shut the doors and then he meets the girl, falls in love…

It’s a really cool story…

One of the scenes in the movie was that they were showing how this ship is moving along in the ocean and at the time the way they did it was burning coal…

They’d pick up the coal and put it in the furnace and they had to keep this fire burning because the fire was actually what was keeping the ship moving and spinning everything along…

I thought that this is the perfect example to talk about this right now…

What I want you to imagine the scene of the movie…

You walk into this room and you’ve got a line of furnaces on the left and right side…

Just furnace after furnace and there is a big pile of coal in front of each furnace…

There is a guy at each furnace with a shovel, scooping up the coal and throwing it into the furnace…

Then scooping more coal up and throwing it again into the furnace…

And they just keep doing that…

I want you to imagine for a second, in front of one of these furnaces is a really big Arnold Schwarzenegger looking dude with big muscles…

Just imagine he is able to pick up that whole big pile of coal and he can through it all into the furnace in one throw and he is done…

Got all the coal in the furnace and he is like “I’m done”…

He sits down, pops a cigarette in his mouth, he’s smoking, closes eyes and just chills out…

He is like “I’m done, one throw and I’m good”…

Right next to him you have this really small dude, almost like a midget…

He is just a tiny dude, must be like 4ft, all skin and bones and he has this small shovel because this is all he can use…

He is there shoveling really fast, moving along and trying to get all this coal into the furnace to keep it going…

He is there working his ass off while the other guy is chilling, smoking his cigarette with his feet up and chilling out, waiting for the fire to die out before he starts working again…

The midget dude is just rushing and putting coal into the furnace…

By the time the other dude gets back up, he’s going to keep going because he is just barely keeping his fire going…

Insulin Sensitive VS Insulin Resistant and Weight Loss

For those two people…

You’ve got the muscular dude and little midget dude…

For the muscular dude, I want you to think of him as the guy who is insulin sensitive…

The guy who is insulin resistant is that little midget dude…

All it means is basically as the food you eat that goes into your mouth…

You know… the carbohydrates that are so horrible for you…”NOT”…

You eat them and they go into your mouth…

Not to get too technical but the food goes into your stomach…

From your stomach it goes into your bloodstream…

And your blood stream delivers it all throughout your body to all the organs…

The bloodstream delivers it as energy into the cells of your body…

But check it out…

In order to get the energy from your blood into the organ, it’s flowing through your veins…

But it has to enter the body from the bloodstream…

In order to do that it needs that muscular dude with the shovel to go and scoop it out of the blood and throw into the organs…

The insulin sensitive is that bis muscular Arnold Schwarzenegger dude that scoops all that out of the blood in one go and slams it into the organs and he is done…

The insulin resistant dude, he is that little midget who is trying so hard to get this out of the blood and it’s taking him forever to do it, because he is not good at it, he is not strong like the other dude…

So, there you go…

Let me ask you this…

What the hell does that mean?

All it means is you either absorb the energy quickly or slowly, but you are still getting the energy…

So, who gives a shit?…

Your organs are still getting fed with the energy they need…

DONE!

How is Insulin Connected with Weight Loss or Weight Gain?

What the hell does that have to do with gaining or losing weight?

What the hell does that matter?

The same amount of food enters your body and the same amount of energy is burned in your body…

The only thing that mattered was that one guy had it in his bloodstream a little longer…

That’s it!

Done…

But if I am insulin sensitive, I’m going to be fat’

How the hell are you going to be fat?

You got Arnold Schwarzenegger working the corner getting this shit out of your blood, so what…

You’re not going to be fat…

The one thing I like to ask, but I don’t want to be mean to these people sometimes…

But what I would ask if I saw this person, I would say “You are telling me you are insulin sensitive and because you’re insulin sensitive, you are going to get fat?

That is amazing…

You must be really special person, because let me ask you this…

If you were to stop eating all together, just take a week off from eating, then you would get fat, because you are insulin sensitive?”…

If you’re saying it matters…

So, I’m just saying that if you don’t eat are you’re going to still gain weight?

You’re going to get fat because you’re insulin sensitive?

What I am trying to say is that the only thing that matters when it comes to eating and to gain fat is the amount of food you eat and the energy you burn throughout the day…

That is the only thing that matters…

I don’t care if your body is pumping it through your body and bloodstream any quicker than the other guy, it doesn’t matter, when it comes to weight loss…

It doesn’t mean anything, when it comes to weight loss…

The only thing that matters is how much did you eat…

If you only ate one carrot the whole day and you went and ran 10 miles, you’re going to burn fat…

Now, the opposite side to that if you went to Panda Express and ate 10,000 calories and then sat on the couch all day and watched TV…

Then you’re going to gain fat…

That’s it!

How To Lose Fat By Still Eating Carbs

So back to the original question, I want to lose fat and eat carbs… can I do that?

I guess you can…

Because we have just seen that you can and the only thing that matters in ‘Energy In vs Energy Out’…

So how do you do that?

Okay, so I have the carbs coming in, but how can I lose fat?

The same way that anybody else is going to lose fat…

You got to find somebody who knows how the hell to do it, because you obviously don’t if you are asking questions like that and you think insulin sensitivity matters…

You definitely need to find somebody that…

Understands weight loss…

Understands it to that level so they can explain it to you easily…

You need a support group…

You’re going to need community…

You’re going to need people that can answer questions along the way, because there is little more to this than just one thing…

You’re going to have questions…

Things are going to come up in your life…

You are going to need to figure these things out along the way and you’re going to need someone that will help you through those times…

You’re going to need someone that is going to explain this stuff in a way that is simple to understand, so that you can grasp it and retain it…

Or you will figure it out like I did…

It took me 2 years of doing things wrong, messing things up or just doing things really complicated…

OR
