How many calories can you actually lose in a month?

That is a very good question because every time I look at these ‘fad diet’ programs…

You know, one of these ads that hit my Facebook account or when I google things and I see all these ‘crazy ass’ adds telling me how I can lose so much weight in a short period of time…

I can lose 10 pounds in a week…

I can lose 15 pounds in a week…

30 pounds in a month…

What is right?

How much can I lose in a month legitimately?

Can You Lose Large Amounts of Body Fat in a Short Period of Time?

I used to run the fitness enhancement program in the Navy, where I help people to lose weight…

They’d come to me on this program a couple months before they have to test…

So they’d be showing up and be like “Look, I’ve got all this body fat and I’ve got 2 months to get in shape to pass my test”…

Two months?

So, what do you tell somebody who has has two months to lose body fat or they’re going to be kicked out of the Navy and they are almost 30% body fat, but they’ve got to get down to 25% body fat…

They have to lose about 30 pounds of fat basically to get in standards…

They are stressed out…

Their whole career is on the line, they’re staring at me, asking me for help…

How am I going to help them?

Their family at home is going to suffer if they can’t lose this body fat…

How are they going support their family and their kids?

What kind of example is he setting for his kids?

In his kids eyes he’s going to feel like a failure…

Not only that, he is overweight and probably is turning his kids into ‘second generation fat’, because he doesn’t know how to handle this…

He’s got a lot of things going through his mind…

Not only does he want to stay in the Navy he would like to lose weight in general but he just doesn’t know how…

He would love to feel good about his body…

He would love to be attractive to his wife…

I know I would, and I was overweight at one time…

I can feel how that felt when I was in that situation…

When I was 190 pounds, I wasn’t at 30% body fat, but I was around 15% to 18% body fat, I had a good stomach going…

I’ll tell you what…

It definitely starts to change the way you feel about yourself and your confidence goes down in those situations…

Back to the question of how can this person get in standards within couple of months, even though he’s got so much body fat he has to lose in that time…

What do you do?

To me you can easily fall prey to any one of these ‘fad diet’ programs that are launched into your face at any point of time…

All these ways to lose weight so fast and if you don’t understand how much body fat you’re actually able to lose then you are going to just believe what people are telling you…

But how do you know what is right?

How would you even know that you can get there in two months?

You have no clue…

It’s like me trying to go play golf and I have never played before…

I don’t even know what a good score is…

I just go out there and start swinging away and all I know to do is count strokes…

I finish 18 holes and I’ve got a 120 score…

I don’t know if that’s good or bad…

I just know that I got 120 strokes…

I’ve no clue what even a good score is…

I don’t know what par is for that course (which perfect is 72 strokes)…

If I knew that, I’d realize that holy crap, I did really bad, I am very far over 72…

That is like 50 strokes over…

I must have done really bad…

Or if I end up getting 62 I would know that I did really good…

But how would I know that if I don’t know what par for that course is?

I didn’t know what normal was…

Does that make any sense? You following me here?

Eventually I ended up getting more into nutrition and I started learning all these things, because at one point I had no clue either…

I was trying to lose body fat and I was wondering how much body fat I could lose in a week…

What’s normal?

Can I lose 10 pounds in a week?

I have no idea…

I started doing research…

I read book after book after book…

I’m trying to get the answer…

I’m trying to find this stuff out…

Somewhere along the way I came across the answer and it is actually really simple when you understand the answer…

The only thing you need to understand is calories…

The only thing you need to understand is what calories are and how many calories are in a pound of fat…

I’m going to explain how this works…

It might be a little technical, but I’m going to make it simple for you…

There are 3,500 calories in one pound of fat…

One pound of fat is about the size of a grape fruit…

Imagine that size is a pound of fat on your hand…

This equals 3,500 calories…

This is the most important part…

So, I want to lose that pound of fat…

What do I need to know?

This is some basic math…

I’ve got 3,500 calories that I want to lose to burn that one pound of fat…

It’s like algebra…

I hate to tell you, but your algebra is actually going to come handy right now…

That crap you learned in school and thought “I never need to know this shit”, you actually need to know right now…

I need to know how many calories I use in a day…

It is very important to know…

I need to know that…

There is very confusing information out there on how to determine the calories you burned in a day…

When I was trying to figure this part out, it was like…

I’d go to one calculator ran by the government and it would tell me I burned one number…

Then I go to this other government one and it would tell me I would burn another number…

Then I’d go to this other one from a civilian company, like MyFitnessPal or Calorie King, and it would tell me third number…

They are all telling me different numbers…

What the hell!

How can 4 different calculators be so completely different…

Now I am just more confused…

Luckily, I found an easy way to do it (I’m not going to tell you what it is right now, but it’s really simple trick)…

I figured it out…

So, I knew how many calories I was able to burn in a day…

Found that out after screwing around with all these calculators that actually don’t work…

There is one foolproof way to do it…

I found that, that was great…

Now I know I burn this many calories in a day…

Can I Burn 3 Pounds of Actual Fat in a Week?

Let’s just say we want to burn 1 pound of fat in a week…

What is 1 pound of fat divided by 7 days?

That’s 3,500 calories divided by 7…

It’s 500 calories a day, just remember that…

500 calories a day equals one pound of body fat a week…

Alright, I can take in 500 calories less than what I normally take in…

Got it!

What if I want to burn 2 pounds?

Then I would have to take in 1,000 calories less in a day…

Now I am getting a little hungry, now I am starting to feel it…

1,000 calories a day less?

Now I am starting to feel those hunger pains…

What if I want to burn 3 pounds a body fat in a week?

That is 1,500 calories a day deficit…

I’ve talked to some people who were trying to lose weight, they were maintaining 1,000 calories a day…

They were eating a 1,000 calories a day and maintaining their current weight…

It’s not even humanly possible for the to take 1,500 calorie deficit…

It is not possible!

Not even possible for that person to take in 500 calorie deficit because you should never go below 1,000 calories…

Does that make any sense?

Let’s just say I’m going to kill it…

I’m going to take in 1,500 calories less…

I would never recommend taking less than that…

The only reason I say that is there is some specific reasons behind it, and you could actually end up screwing up your metabolism and reverse the effects that you want to have…

You don’t want your body to think that you’re starving to death…

If your body thinks you are starving to death then it has built-in mechanisms to help you not burn calories…

It becomes more efficient…

Your body becomes this efficient machine…

Our bodies are amazing…

They were designed that way because very long time ago there would be periods where we wouldn’t have food for long periods of time…

So, there is a reason your body is like that and it’s for a good purpose…

Until you know or can figure out a way to reprogram our brains to not do that, you’re still got to deal with that…

Let’s say that the most you are able to do is a 1,500 calories deficit…

That equals 3 pounds of fat a week….

What is that in a month?

12 pounds in a month…

That is if you are doing everything right…

That is if you know what you are doing…

You could do it, 12 pounds a month…

Are You Losing Body Fat or Water Weight?

Knowing how it actually works…

Doesn’t it make more sense…

Now you might think “I don’t believe that, because I just seen the ad the other day that told me I can burn 12 pounds in a week”…

You want me to lose 12 pounds in a week?

I could do it, it’s so simple…

Don’t drink water…

Our bodies are 80% water…

So yes, if you don’t drink water, you’ll lose weight…

Are you trying ‘make weight’ for professional boxing match?

Then why the hell should you give a shit about losing water weight?

That’s only going to make you more hungry…

Why the hell would a normal person trying to lose body fat give a shit about losing water weight?

Even those people who were on my program, who signed up to my fitness enhancement program, were like “I can burn 10 pounds in a week”…

No you can’t!

It is not going to help you to lose that weight when I am measuring your body fat because I am not weighing you…

I am taking a measurement around your stomach…

Your stomach isn’t going to change size because you lost water…

It’s just not…

The body fat will still be there…

You’re just going to be really dehydrated and feel like shit…

Don’t fall any more for those stupid ‘fad diets’ that are promising you a bunch of bullshit that ain’t going to happen…

Next time someone tries to tell you that you can burn 10 pounds in a week, tell them to shove it up their ass…

Because now you know that ain’t true…

It just isn’t possible…

The only way you’re going to burn that amount of fat in a week…

If you want to burn 10 pounds of fat in a week…

That is 3,500 calories times 10…

How the hell am I going to burn 3,500 calories times 10?

It is not possible…

I hope that makes sense…

I really want to make this point across…

I want you to get it!

I want you to remember it…

I want you to know these things so that people wont take advantage of you…

I want you to have success in weight loss…

If you let this expectation that you’re going to be able to lose 10 pounds in a week and you lose 1 pound, you’re going to feel like shit…

1 pound is a lot!

That is 3,500 calories…

You did amazing if you lost a pound in a week!

You shouldn’t be sad about that…

You should be throwing a party, because you did it…

You lost a freaking pound!

That is what I want to get across…

So, you understand how these things work and you can teach them to your children, so they don’t have to be overweight…
